A reasonable annual student budget in the Netherlands generally sits in the €12,000–€18,000 range, with accommodation as the largest line item. Per official Study in NL guidance, a student room typically falls between €5,400 and €12,000 per year, and in cities such as Amsterdam this can run higher.
The classic U.S.-style 'campus life' isn't the norm at every Dutch university. Students typically choose between university-arranged housing, private student residences, shared houses or privately rented rooms. In cities like Amsterdam, Utrecht, Rotterdam, Leiden and Eindhoven the search needs to start early.
For non-EU students the employer must obtain a TWV work permit. The student can either work up to 16 hours per week year-round or work full-time in June, July and August — not both. One option applies at a time.
